Before the Curtain Rises

“It takes courage.”

Before the Curtain Rises captures the passion, collaboration, creativity, and sacrifice that goes into making a musical. Two fleeting hours on the stage is the product of long hours of rehearsal, technical design, chaos, and collaboration.

“Seeing the musical knowing what went into it is so much more rewarding than just watching it not knowing anything.”

Before the Curtain Rises was made because I’ve grown up a theater kid, and have lived on the stage. Having struggled to balance theater, school, and life, in my high school theater experience, I made this documentary to enhance appreciation for the theater and to define what it is to be a theater kid.

“This is hard work for anybody but you’re not alone in doing this.”

During my time in high school, I found the theater department to be a safe haven during an era of self-discovery. In such a vulnerable art form, theater fosters a community that relies on risks and embraces mistakes.

“The department that has supported me throughout all my years.”
